There are five species of sloth found only in the tropical forests of Central and South America. Sloths have long limbs and claws to help them move slowly through the trees. They spend most of their time in the trees eating leaves, though their slow metabolism allows them to survive on the low-nutrition diet. Sloths have developed camouflaging algae on their fur and slow movements to avoid detection from predators such as jaguars, harpy eagles, and humans.
