- 1. October 31, 2015 To Whom It May Concern: On rare occasions, I have the opportunity to write a letter of recommendation that excites me. This is one of those occasions. Enrique Baloyra is a dynamic, intelligent person. His dedication to teaching mathematics to students is unmatched in our school. The numbers speak for themselves: the highest number of students passing the Algebra 1 End-of-Year (EOC) exam in the region and a yearly rate of over 90% of his students passing the EOCall this while missing just one day of work in seven years. He is at school early to tutor children, and he stays after school to help students master mathematics concepts. In short, he is truly dedicated to educating todays youth. He is also socially and politically astute. Each morning of the school day, we discuss the socio- political topics of the day: global warming, environmental degradation, tax reform, natural resources, and employability. Humanitarian best describes Enrique. Oftentimes, these discussions take place in the context of future situations and opportunities for our students and future generations of middle school students. Enrique is also a consistent supporter and contributor to our schools International Baccalaureate (IB) program. His IB lessons are rigorous yet open-ended, requiring students to apply the requisite skills to solve problems and justify their processes. He supports the IB Learner Profile, whereby students are encouraged to become inquirers, balanced, open-minded, and caring.
