counts. This Christmas, we are taking part in Oxfam
Unwrapped where we make a series of donations on your

A Goat | The 1st Day of Christmas
Goats can play an important role for people living
in rural communities in Mozambique. They
provide manure to help grow crops and produce
baby goats that can be sold for an income. Goats
are distributed to vulnerable families because
they are easy to raise and take care of. Oxfam
Australia also provides training in keeping,
vaccinating and de-worming the animals.

Lessons for Young Locals | The 2nd Day
of Christmas
In Vanuatu, young unemployed people need to
learn skills so they can get a job and improve
their self-esteem. Oxfam supports three youth
centres in Vanuatu’s main towns, Port Vila and
Luganville, to offer informal classes, workshops
and activities, like guitar and dance lessons,
nutrition, sewing, agriculture and futsal to young
people in the community.

Christmas
Pigs are an extraordinary friend to a family
trying to break free from the cycle of
poverty. In Vietnam, Oxfam is supporting an
innovative project that turns methane gas
from pig manure into energy for households
and schools, which cuts down on pollution
and provides local people with jobs.

Christmas
Without direct access to markets, or the skills
and knowledge needed to negotiate a fair
price, Sri Lankan farmers are often ripped off.
Their produce is bought at a low price and sold
at prices too expensive for poor families.
Oxfam brings farmers together so they can sell
their produce directly to families and everyone
gets a fair price.

Seeds | The 6th Day of Christmas
India is among the most disaster-prone countries in
the world and each year disasters cause thousands to
flee their home, with the consequence being that
some people are living in absolute poverty, without
basic human necessities. Oxfam is working in these
vulnerable areas to help communities prepare for
disasters and improve food security. For example, we
provide seeds and training for families to grow their
own nutritious food so they can eat healthily and can
sell leftover produce at market.

Christmas
The people of Vanuatu are among the most
vulnerable to climate change. Together with local
partners, Oxfam is working to support the most
vulernable communities to plan and work
together to prepare for disasters like the recent
Tropical Cyclone Pam, adapt to the impacts of
climate change and improve their wellbeing.

In Zimbabwe, Oxfam provides seeds and training
to help people grow a variety of vegetables to
improve their nutrition and diversify the foods
that families eat. The fresh vegetables help to
make sure that families eat healthily and have
ample vegetables that they can sell to earn a
small income as well.

A Chicken | The 9th Day of
Christmas
Chickens are helping families in Mozambique
earn a living. Oxfam Australia works to
increase access to food in Mozambique by
providing families with the initial training,
support and livestock to raise chickens.
Households can then eat the eggs and sell
chickens and eggs at the market to earn
money.

Women’s Empowerment | The 10th
Day of Christmas
Since its beginning, Oxfam Australia’s Straight Talk
program has brought together hundreds of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander women from across the
nation to learn about Australia’s political system and
form powerful networks with each other and women
of Federal Parliament. At its core, Straight Talk
connects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women
with the political system and develops the skills of
women as change makers within their own
community.

A Safe Refuge for Women| The 12th

The threat of violence is a daily reality for many
women and girls living in Papua New Guinea.
Here, violence against women is very common
and is considered part of life. Oxfam is working to

accommodation, legal advice, counselling and
access to healthcare services.
