The  Soldier
BornJanuary 19th1948Leaksville, NCHe used to be a kid
He used to play outside
He used to sit on his front porch
He Blew out candles on hisBirthday cake
He playedIn the dirt, He playedHide & SeekAndOf course,Chased the girls
He grew up and went  to school
He welded metalto make a sled,He lit firecrackers,and madeSmoke/stink bombsHe was a boy
A boy who wasBorn a soldier
He went on toHigh School,he ranTrack and         all the        girls  loved       Mr. Tall Dark      & Handsome
He did your normal teenage stuff.He chased his brother around.His first beer was an Iron City Beer       he swiped from his dad.He took his dads car anddid donuts in the parking lots around town.He loved his rifle.Camped out with his buddies.He loved The Beatlesand of coursehe had a girlfriend
That normal teenage life would quickly fade into the backgroundHe grew up an Army BratHis father was a career man,It was  April, 1965, the Vietnam war was on.He enlisted.His father wanted him to finish school first,but the Soldier in him wouldnt waitOn November 10, 1966 his tour began.
The young boyWas now aSoldier
It didnt take him long,He was a naturalHe was born to be a soldierIt was his callingHe loved his countryHe honored his flagHe was a soldierInside and out

Fate brought us together  on the internet, or divine intervention, (aka Billy). You  both gave  me my  brother.  All I had were pictures, war medals and military papers until you two came along.   You gave me his child hood memories, you gave me a real person;  his personality, his likes and dislikes, a  glimpse  into his world.   I will be forever grateful.My worst fear before meeting you two, was that my brother would be forgotten.  Now, that will never happen.
