An open and connected mindset is encouraged to find innovative opportunities and not get left behind. Participants will learn how to remix their network and connections to better suit today's workplace. Change is necessary to adapt jobs and the way people work to the modern world. People are encouraged to take what's useful from the past but also add their own insights.

A child in the mid-19th century might have aspired to being an occultist, feather dresser, or lightening rod maker! A Census from 1850 had these jobs listed as common work for the time. Mustard makers, lace manufacturers, entertainers, bakers and barbers were also in high numbers. Just last year, 29k Americans worked as meter readers, but its not expected to be a hot career for their entire professional lives.
Careers such as genetic counselor and photovaltaic installer were recently added to the Census as some of the new emerging occupations. Many jobs that were considered trades or skilled laborer jobs are pretty steady, but the trend of mid-skill, middle-class jobs such as bank tellers are draining away according to the Wall St Journnal 9/3/13 . MBA hiring have improved over the last year with strong growth in consulting, financial svcs, engineering, energy and technology.
What does this mean for people who are looking to make changes in their career path, twilighters and folks whove seen job loss? Employers are expected t add almost 190K positions a month on average beginning from this past fall up through early next year.
Moving from hierarchy to a flattened structure allows people to speak with and interact with even the CEO or President (C-Suite) making the workplace more collaborative than in the past.
No longer set office hours in this day of flex scheduling. With connectivity and technology putting us in touch with people in other countries at the touch or swipe of a phone or I-Pad, we can connect anytime, anywhere! Greater work-life balance, more engaged and happy employees.
Information sharing is the new business driver. In order to remain competitive and relevant, employees have to be able to share ideas, feedback and content. So back to my original question of whats got you stuck? Are thinking that if you just close your eyes and ignore it, it will all pass and you dont have to change anything? I have (3) action steps that can help you get unstuck and moving in the right direction FORWARD! Easy to remember because theres only 3Gs (Hint: Not $3000) you have got to Keep it Moving and Keep Your Eyes Open. Step One: GO! This could mean go ahead and cry, scream yell break your shoe rack! True storyI broke mine when I was done with my relationship in Brooklyn, at least I didnt break NO-BODY! It inspired me to kick rocks and get unstuck from him and that situation. It could mean GO AWAY for a while to clear your head (walk it off, take a trip) whatever you can afford or time wise.
STEP TWO: GET a Grip! Have some real-talk conversation with yourself! How open do you think you are to receiving any type of advice at this point? Listen to your inner self, work it thru in your head first and then let it spill onto paper! Once youve gotten it out of your inner it becomes real and ACTIONABLE. Visualizing, journaling, listing (weight is very impactful when you put pros and cons side by side)

Look at the difference in just 8 years!!! That leads me to STEP 3: GONE! Or GWON! Not from 0-60, but remember to keep it moving while you keep your eyes open. You should begin to notice the diminishing effect of fear, anger confusion, sadness, self-pity, etc. Clear mind, clear heart now LETS GO!

Be careful about the footprint you leave. There are all types of horror stories about how Facebook, Twitter, and other forms of social media have ruined peoples lives, chances at a great career or their brand was destroyed. Access is a great thing, but it can also be destructive if we arent careful about how much we share personally and private matters that should remain private.
If you dont already have something to keep you connected my guess is you will before the year is over! Technology has become such an integral part of our lives its hard to imagine life without it! I had a job where they gave us a beeper, plus we had desk phone (landline), email and our own personal cell. Who needs all that???
