The Indian Hotels Company Limited, also known as Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, was incorporated in 1902 and established its first hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, in 1903. Since then it has expanded to include over 100 hotels across India and internationally. Its vision is to be a benchmark in the hospitality industry globally. While it has faced challenges like the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks and competition from other hotel chains, Taj Hotels aims to continue growing and opening over 80 new hotels globally by 2018 through expansion, renovations, and entering new market segments.

• 1903: The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai - First Hotel established
• 1974: First five star beach resort, Fort Aguada Beach Resort, Goa
• 1980: First international step. Taj Sheba Hotel at Yemen
• 1989: Taj Bengal in Kolkata. First chain to have presence in all five metros.
• 2000: Partnership with GVK Reddy group to form Taj GVK Hotels
• 2004: Opened Wellington Mews in Mumbai, first luxury serviced apartment and
launched Ginger, its value for money chain
• 2008: Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, was under terrorist siege on 26 November, 2008
• 2010: Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai reopened completely
• 2011: Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces opens a new hotel - Vivanta by Taj – Dal view,
Srinagar.

Relief.
• Banjaar Tola, the Taj Safari lodge in Kanha National Park

• Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur ranked no. 11 on the list
of "Top Resorts in Asia" and no. 14 on the list of "Top 50
