ABSTRACT (Adri叩n)
Our type of user is a software engineer, so we want to have the best tablet to
work with. We are analyzing three brands, the main ones, and we are having
in mind specifications like size (not exceeding a maximum size), hardware
(the best performance), the best battery life, a good camera so we can take
photos of a blackboard for instance, and so on. We want nice display types
because its the main feature of a tablet, so we want a minimum display
density over 250 pixels per inch, and also an affordable price. Finally, we are
giving three winners to compare to each other, and we will get a final
winner which we will recommend to people with our profile so they can have
the tablet they need to work with, whether its for university, for their job, or
simply to play a game to relax or playing a film thanks to a nice display size
and quality. And the final winner is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.
INTRODUCTION (David)
The purpose of the report is to explain and advise about what are the best
tablets for the people of our age. Its an interesting report for those who are
studying a degree and need a tablet as a work tool.
We have used the brands official website to gather information of the tablets,
and we have brainstormed needs we have to cover as students and as
software engineers. After that we have compared each tablet choosing a
winner of each brand to finally select the best tablet.
RESEARCH METHOD FOLLOWED AND RESULTS
The type of customer involved
Our research report focuses on people between 18-25 years that is studying a
university degree, specifically, computer science.
This type of customer, despite that maybe they cant have a job so they have
less purchasing power, they spend money in technology for their studies.
Current brands that offer a tablet
We have selected three brands that we think are the cutting-edge ones in this
industry: Samsung, Apple and BQ.
3. 3
(A)
Samsung offers many types of tablets and is the second largest brand in the
world of the tablet industry. We are going to focus in this three models:
o Samsung
Galaxy Tab S2 (9.7, Wi-Fi) - 448.99
Galaxy Tab A (9.7, Wi-Fi) - 219
Galaxy View (18.4, Wi-Fi) - 649
4. 4
Apple offers three types of tablet and is the top seller in the world. We are
going to analyze two of them:
o Apple
iPad Pro
12.9, 899 , 2.732 x 2.048, 713 g
9,7, 679 , 2.048 x 1.536, 444 g
iPad Air 2, 9,7, 429, 2.048 x 1.536, 444 g
5. 5
(D)
BQ is the best known Spanish seller and also offers many types of tablets.
We are focusing on three of them:
o BQ
Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition
10.1 ", 470g., 246 x 171 x 8,2 mm.
219,90 -269,90
Tesla 2 W10
10.1 ", 1280x800, 650 g, 258,5 x 173 x 9,9 mm
259,90
6. 6
Edison 3 Android
10.1", 1280x800, 625gr., 256 x 174,7 x 9,7 m
199,90-259,90
Needs to be covered with a tablet
o Size (A)
As students we dont mind at all the size because we prefer to have
better features in return for a bigger size and a heavier weight.
Despite willing to have good features, we dont want the tablet to
exceed some dimensions. Our ideal tablet shouldnt exceed 275.8 x
451.8 x 11.9 mm.
o Display Type (A)
Because sometimes we are going to be working in front of a tablet for a
few hours, we want it to have a good display, so we are looking for a
tablet with a minimum resolution of 1080p and, if possible, with a
minimum of 250 pixels per inch.
o Hardware (A)
Most of the tablets we are going to analyze are running on Android OS,
so we need a powerful hardware to run it. To have the best experience
with multitasking and heavy duties, we will need at least a quad core
processor running at 1,5GHz, a minimum RAM of 2GB and a minimum
storage of 16GB.
o Software (A)
As software engineers, we like to be updated. So we will go for a tablet
that assures us that we are on the latest (or the last but one) operating
system in order to be able to run the latest applications and to be
protected thanks to the security updates.
7. 7
o Camera (D)
The camera may not seem an important feature in a tablet, because its
uncomfortable to use, but in the academic context (field) we need a
good camera, to capture the lesson on the blackboard, or capture the
lecture notes of our classmate. For this reason, we need an 8MP
resolution camera.
o Battery (D)
For students, the tablet its a work tool, and we need it to be available
throughout the day. Normally, the screen is the main factor that
increases the demand on battery power, and in tablets, one of the main
characteristics is a big screen, so after hours and hours of use, the
battery runs out very fast. For this reason, our tablet must have a good
battery, somewhere between 5000-7000 mAh.
o Connectivity (D)
Regarding connectivity, we are going to focus in Wi-Fi technology
instead of 3G/4G technology, because it is a feature that increases the
price of the tablet in 100 approximately, and this need is covered by
the mobile phone.
Usually in all universities and in our homes, there is a Wi-Fi net, and to
have a fast internet connection we need 802.11 Wi-Fi connectivity.
All the new tablets also have GPS and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
What tablet fits these needs?
o Discarded makers
We are discarding the rest of the brands because we think the best
ones are those which we have selected.
o Best tablets
Regarding Samsung, the tablets that meet the requirements above are
the following:
Talking about size, the Galaxy Tab S2 and the Galaxy A are the best in
this aspect. We want them to be portable, so the best one would have
a maximum of 9.7 inches display size.
If we talk about displays, the Galaxy Tab S2 has a 1536p resolution
and the Galaxy View has a 1080p resolution despite it has a 120 pixels
per inch density.
When we want to see which is the best at performance, we have two
winners here: The Galaxy Tab S2 has an Octa-Core running at 1.9 and
8. 8
1.3GHz, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The Galaxy View has also
an Octa-Core running at 1.6GHz, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
In terms of software, we only have one winner, and it is the Galaxy
View, which is running Android 5.1 (the last but one Android OS
version).
The best in this field is the Tab S2, which has an 8MP camera.
We also need a good battery and the Galaxy Tab A has the biggest
one with 6000 mAh.
Finally, talking about connectivity, the three of them will cover this
need.
So, the winner at Samsung turns to be the Galaxy Tab S2!
In the BQ market we are going to analyze the 3 tablets depending on
the needs that each of them meets:
The three tablets have 10.1 inches of screen size, but the smaller and
the sleeker tablet is the Aquaris M10, with a dimension of only 246 x
171 mm. and 8,2 mm. Thick.
In the display type, the only tablet that has 1080p resolution and 224
pixels per inch is the Aquaris M10.
The best processor, RAM and storage capacity is included in the Tesla
2, with a quad core processor running at 1,83GHz, 2GB of RAM and
32GB of storage, but the Aquaris M10 also fits our needs having a
quad core processor running at 1,5GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of
storage.
These 3 BQ tablets include a different operating system, Aquaris M10
have Ubuntu 15.04, Tesla 2 include Windows 10, and Edison 3
incorporate Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
The only tablet with an 8 MP Camera is the Aquaris M10.
Each of them have the same battery with 7000 mAh.
Talking about connectivity, the three of them meet this need.
So, the winner at BQ would be the Aquaris M10.
9. 9
In the Apple market, we have:
Two of them have a 9.7 inches display, while the biggest one has a
12.9 inches display.
About the display type, the three tablets feature a 264 pixels per inch
display, so the three of them gives the same pixel density, hence the
same quality.
We can not say that there is a winner in terms of performance. They all
score high results in benchmarks because of their optimization. iPad
Air features an A8X processor and 1Gb of RAM, while the iPad Pro
features an A9X processor and 2GB of RAM. The iPad Air has three
versions, a 16, 64 and 128GB of storage. Furthermore, the iPad Pro
has a 32, 128 and a 256GB of storage.
All of the iPads run over iOS 9 (at the moment). Its an Apple own
operating system that is optimized for each iDevice so they offer almost
the same performance and it also gives the possibility to sync with
each other.
iPad Air and iPad Pro 12.9 offer 8MP iSight cameras. The iPad Pro
9.7 offers an 8MP camera.
Apple dont reveal the capacity of their batteries, but they say that all of
their tablets can give you up to 10 hours of life.
Talking about connectivity, the three of them meet this need.
So, the winner at Apple is the iPad Pro 9.7.
o The best choice (including price-quality ratio)
We have three winners among the three brands.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (448.99), the BQ Aquaris M10 (269,90)
and the iPad Pro 9.7 (679 ).
If we have to choose a winner, we have to remember that:
1. The iPad Pro offers the best optimization between hardware and
software.
2. The BQ Aquaris M10 offers the best price.
3. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 offers the best specifications for a
good price.
So in our opinion, the best tablet, and the one you need, is the
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.
