The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is India's foreign intelligence agency, established in 1968 in response to intelligence failures during the Sino-Indian War. RAW was created as an independent agency dedicated solely to foreign intelligence gathering, whereas previously both domestic and foreign intelligence were handled by the Intelligence Bureau. RAW reports to the Prime Minister's Office and Cabinet Secretariat of India. It is responsible for gathering foreign intelligence, conducting counterterrorism and psychological operations. RAW's operations are mainly focused on Pakistan, Kashmir, Bangladesh and conducting covert operations abroad.
