It is not always possible to remediate deficiencies in mathematical knowledge within a school setting. At the same time, we know that Intelligent Tutoring Systems can aid students in acquiring, practicing, and assessing mathematical content. In this paper, we will present interactive workbooks created at our institution, that cover units of study from the secondary A-level mathematics curriculum, comprising a series of technical expositions and a modular collection of quizzes. Each quiz addresses content equivalent of at most two classroom lessons and features automated feedback bespoke to the students (algebraic or numeric) input. The digital books make use of a Computer Algebra System to provide automated feedback. The development of the books is a collaborative process in a Community of Interest with local secondary teachers, developers recruited from local departments, and the Southampton Education School. An iterative design-based research approach was adopted for the development, with multiple opportunities for feedback and improvement. After initial prototyping, a teacher focus group will attend a follow-up session where they are invited to review the materials and to make suggestions or requests before implementing them with their students later in the year. This presentation will outline an effective model for a Hybrid Statistics course. The course continues to be very successful, incorporating on-line instruction, testing, blogs, and, above all, a data analysis project based on real up-to-date easily understood data.The course follows a project driven trajectory motivating students

My duties as a TA included homework grading, test grading, and leading weekly discussion sessions. In Summer 2007 and Summer 2008, worked on projects in Prof. Bill Heltons research group. Wrote Mathematica software for analyzing chemical reaction networks. In Fall 2009, I was the main instructor for a precalculus class. Under the direction of Prof. Mark Gross, did algebraic geometry research leading to a Ph.D. in August 2011. Also participated in research and learning seminars with faculty and students in UCSDs math department. Visiting Assistant Professor University of California, Riverside September 2011July 2014 I was the main instructor for two undergraduate math classes per quarter, for a total of six classes per year. Conducted independent math research leading to two published papers, and gave two presentations at research conferences. Independent Math Tutor August 2014May 2016 Worked as private tutor for students in high school and college math classes including AP Calculus, differential equations, and probability. Also provided assistance to a computer programmer implementing a new image processing algorithm. Continued research in algebraic geometry, leading to a new preprint. Bookkeeper Sound Bookkeepers September 2015present Managed bookkeeeping and accounting for local small businesses.
