ACADEMIC PROJECT Topic: Evaluation of properties of coir fiber reinforced concrete. Team size ¨C 3 Coconut coir fiber is found to have good tensile strength and abrasion resistance. It can easily withstand heat and saltwater. In the first phase, we studied the mechanical
properties of concrete mix and coconut coir fibers. The effect of various percentages of coconut coir fibers (0.5% to 2.0%) on workability and strength properties of concrete was studied. Standard specimens for compressive strength, Modulus of elasticity, split tensile strength, modulus of rupture are cast as per relevant IS codes. The results were compared with plain cement concrete. In Second phase, total 30 cubes and 3 beam specimens were cast and tested. Based on the experimental results of workability and mechanical strength properties obtained from phase one, effect of coconut coir fibers of specified length and selected percentage fractions on concrete was studied. Successfully completed 6 weeks industrial training at CPWD (Additional Supreme court complex, Pragati Maidan) from 16th June 2014 to 21st July 2014. ? Successfully completed 6 weeks training at DTTDC (Signature Bridge, New Aruna Nagar) from 6th July 2015 to 14th Aug. 2015.
