Richard H. Ebright is an American molecular biologist known for his early work studying monarch butterfly migration and cell development. As a child, he had a keen interest in collecting butterflies and conducted research tagging monarchs to study their migration patterns. At age 24, he published a seminal theory demonstrating that gold spots on monarch pupae produce hormones necessary for the butterflies' development. This early work established Ebright as a pioneering scientist and he continues his distinguished career today as a professor studying DNA and genetics.
