Joy Bonaguro worked for the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center which published data about New Orleans neighborhoods. When Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, their website became an important resource but one of their elevation maps contained an error by using feet instead of meters. Roland Shield contacted them to warn about the incorrect legend, pulling data from other GIS websites. His warning helped them fix the error and the map was widely used, providing important information to hurricane victims. Joy was grateful to Roland for extending their staff's capacity and helping convey the error in a gracious way during the crisis.
