Run a Shop / TNW Conference 2014

  • #3: 狠狠撸: Let me start with some numbers. Last year, we sold 15m products to our partner merchants golbally. That?s 500m USD in sales value.
  • #4: And I need to mention this: we bootstrapped our way into it!
  • #5: How did we do this?

  • #7: And a high performing media buying suite. That probably doesnt?mean much to you. So let me get into more details
  • #8: We API connected with a selection of merchants and merchants mediatores globally and created our own meta-API out of it. ? Out of our meta API we are basically packaging all this product information that we were pulling from the merchant APIs into ?monetizable“ formats (we call it applications)
  • #9: Our first application was a price comparison engine. We started testing it really quickly.
  • #10: : That means buying users at scale (through our media buying suite), sending them to our properties and monetizing via affiliate commissions. We were so impressed with the results that we decided to postpone the launch of the ?original“ Run a Shop idea and focus this opportunity. ?
  • #11: That was for us a no-brainer during that time and a perfect way to bootstrap ourselves into the next phase.
  • #12: So, we took the time, went live in 19 countries and ramp up traffic as fast as we possibly could and sold more products than we imagined possible. That was the last 1 year in a nutshell.
  • #14: We are finally launching the ?original“ Run a Shop idea . A publisher network where publishers shall have the same opportunity to monetize their traffic and content with our applications as we do. But first of all, let me tell you more about the publishers and some problems that we think they face.
  • #15: If you are a publisher and you rely on monetizing your content with display, then you are constantly looking to generate incremental revenue from that type of advertising.
  • #16: The problem here ist that the display advertising is kind of stuck in the web 1.0. Display ad experience is broken (for web and now for mobile even more!). ? Sure, you have the standard display adnetworks, affiliate networks, SSPs, you name it, out there. Even the annoying re-targeting banners on RTB/Programmatic buying are big now. But is that type of advertising what customers want?
  • #17: If you are looking for true alternatives that take user interest into consideration, offering also a more native experience, your will be running out of options.
  • #18: Bottom line is: users shouldn?t be looking to find information or products that matter to them. It?s supposed to be the other way around. Information should find users and serve their needs and wishes. Imagine amazons recommendation engine embbeded in a native way. That?s the direction to go. It must be simple, easy to implement, low on maintenance, and it should scale and monetize well.
  • #19: And this is what happening: web is being personalized. Personalization of the web. It?s been there for a while. Personalization is going to a page and instead of finding different links, you show what is best for that specific user. You do it by seeing what users are reading, buying, sharing and liking and build an interest graph around that user type. You apply by showing i.e. a product that the user most definitely migh like or buy. The opportunities are endless. As you can see there are many different fields where one can use the power of user data. E-commerce (as Run a Shop is doing now) is just one field. We want to provide value and add to the online experience oft he user instead of interrupting it.
  • #20: And these are the problems that we are tackling at Run a Shop. We are launching the Run a Shop Publisher Network. It is the next layer of Run a Shop that goes on top of our applications.
  • #21: It?s a self-service content monetization platform.
  • #22: Where publishers select the application they would like to embed in their properties. They only need to copy/paste this tiny piece of code. That?s it. You are ready to roll.
  • #23: I want to show you 2 applications that we will be launching soon: ? This is our Widget. Work on a keyword basis. The widget is populated with products according to what the user is looking for. Works for all sorts of sites with a search box in it.
  • #24: Another app is our Product Ad: the vision here is to offer an interest graph based advertising.
  • #25: It?s a revenue sharing model. We take a fraction of what has been generated by the publishers. Comission model is CPC.
  • #26: Why do we think we can pull this of? We are a team of developers, online marketeers, data crunchers, hustling sales guys. We have extensive experience with online marketing and in product monetization. We have been testing our technology through our own traffic and applications over the past year running millions of daily users daily through our platform. And I can say: it?s works well. ? Now it?s time for our publishers to do that too.
  • #27: Lastly: Not to get things more complicated, but we will, in the future, also enable developers to utilize our API to publish applications that can be used by publishers. But that?s maybe a story for the next TNW conference.
