Saber Saber  means to know  something or  to know how  to do something.
Sabes que mañana no hay clase?  Do you know that there is no school tomorrow?
¿Sabes chino?  Do you know Chinese?
¿Sabes patinar?  Do you know how to skate?
Conocer Conocer  means  to be acquainted  with somebody   or  something :
¿Conoces a Alicia? Do you know Alicia?
¿Conoces Madrid? Do you know Madrid?
Conocer  is followed by the personal “ a”  when it takes a person  and pets, as the object
