Introduction 
 AL Samawah is a city in Iraq, 280 kilometres 
(174 mi) southeast of Baghdad. The city of 
Samawah is the modern capital of the Al 
Muthanna Governorate. The city is located 
midway between Baghdad and Basra, at the 
northern edge of the governorate. The 
province was established in 1975 .
The city is built on both sides of the Euphrates river; there are 
four bridges in the centre of town for crossing between the two 
sides. The west bank of the city contains the commercial heart 
of the city, and includes the old town .The west bank is the site 
of the covered market Suq Al Masgoof, which dates to 
the Ottoman period. The area surrounding the market is the 
old city with its Byzantine maze of crowded markets and 
streets.
 The most famous attraction of Samawah is 
the ruins of the ancient Sumerian city of Uruk 
which dates to 4000 BC. This was the largest 
city in Sumer, extending over 2 km族. Uruk 
was not only the largest city of the first urban 
civilisation on earth, but it is also the place 
where the first written script was discovered, 
the oldest dating back to 3300 BC.

The Population Growth of Iraq is 2.23 (%) with a global rank of 39. 
My home town population growth rate decrease because of the wars and 
unsafe situation in IRAQ.
The Population Growth of Iraq is similar to that of Sierra Leone, Eritrea, 
Afghanistan, Mauritania, The Gambia, Djibouti, Ghana, Cayman Islands, 
Central African Republic, Kenya with a respective Population Growth of 
2.33, 2.30, 2.29, 2.26, 2.23, 2.23, 2.19, 2.14, 2.13, 2.11 (%) and a global 
rank of 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44
Air quality 
 In samawah we suffer from electricity lack so 
people started to buy their own generators to 
generate the electricity Beside that the great 
number of old cars and The southern cement 
factory in central Samawah.
Biodiversity 
 samawah have a nice biodiversity because 
it's contain Palm groves Euphrates river 
beside that contain a lot of birds kinds and 
Livestock .
Waste and recycling 
 There is a small percentage of recycle not over 
that 5%, for metal things And plastic materials 
but Works are underway to build a waste-recycling 
plant, The project stands over an area 
of 30 donums [7.5 hectares] and should be 
finalized in 4 months . , will treat different types 
of waste, namely those from residential and 
trade areas, the state departments, hospitals 
and industrial organizations.
Transport 
 Samawah is served by a highway for road traffic 
from Baghdad and Basra. The railway station has 
passenger services from both Baghdad and 
Basra and is the cheapest form of transport. The 
railway station is located approximately 4 
kilometers (2.5 mi) to the west of central 
Samawah. Finally The transportation in my 
country is not good and need to improvement.
Education 
 samawah have 72 secondary schools, five 
vocational schools (commercial and 
industrial), and three teacher training 
institutes. Al Muthanna University is 
an Iraqi university located in Samawah, It was 
established in 2007 have many departments 
such as medicine , law ,engineering and a lot 
of departments.
Health and healthcare 
 the healthcare degree in samawah is not bad 
but need to more improvement with modern 
devices. we have two hospitals in samawah 
and Works are underway to build a new one 
with a capacity of 400 beds ,a small clinics in 
every area in samawah that makes the 
people feel comfort to reach medical center 
and have their medical treatment.

Green space 
 Samawah is built on both sides of the Euphrates 
and is surrounded by hundreds of palm groves that 
give it a tropical feel, especially in the southern and 
northern suburbs. These groves provide cool respite 
from the scorching heat of Mesopotamia.
Climate change 
 Samawah has a hot desert climate like the rest of 
the surrounding region. During the summer 
months, from June to August, samawah is 
consistently can be considered as basra one of the 
hottest cities on the planet, regularly exceeding 45 
属C (113 属F) and may approach 50 属C (122 属F)during 
July. During the winter samawah experiences mild 
weather with average high temperatures around 20 
属C (68 属F). In few winter nights, minimum 
temperature lows below 0 属C (32 属F).
Food 
 samawah have a big variation in food types, such as 
dates, barley, citrus fruits, various kinds of plants 
fruit , vegetables. In addition, Samawah is home to 
the small and rare trade in wild truffles, which grow 
in the desert regions of Muthanna province .In 
addition to the production of various types of fish 
and sheep . Also samawa have over 140 poultry 
farms .

Economic base 
 Samawah has the largest cement factories in the Middle 
East during the 1970s , with a total production capacity of 
2.85 million tonnes a year . , although the southern cement 
factory ,the oldest, reopened in 2005 . As of 2007 , the four 
existing plants are producing a total of just 0.8 million 
tonnes a year due to the shortage of electricity . Five new 
cement factories with a capacity of 9 million tonnes a year 
are under construction on the outskirts of Samawah and will 
provide employment for several thousand skilled and 
unskilled workers as well as filling 45% of Iraq's total cement 
needs.
Economic base 
 A small oil refinery was reopened in Samawah in 2005 
after being idle for 15 years. The existing 10,000 bbl/d 
facility's capacity was doubled to 20,000 bbl/d (3,200 
m3/d) in 2006 and was to have increased to 30,000 
bbl/d (4,800 m3/d) by 2007. The facility is linked by 
pipeline to the new Kifl oil field in Samawah province 
that has an initial capacity of 40,000 bbl/d (6,400 
m3/d). The major advantage of the refinery is that it is 
designed for processing heavy crude oil, allowing the 
light crude to be exported
Employment 
 The types of jobs in my hometown divided into three 
types: first one is work with government most of 
people work in this field and the second type is 
private companies and in this type of work the 
people who have a good experience work. So there is 
a competitive between private companies and 
government ministries and its provide a large 
number of job vacancies in my home town. The third 
type is the field of agriculture.
