The document describes a Saturday recreational program for children in a disadvantaged urban area in Accra, Ghana. The program was run from 2006-2008 at a pre-school shelter and provided activities like play dough making, games with equipment like swings and a sandbox, as well as refreshments and discussions. It was free of charge and attracted 50-80 children each Saturday but had to end due to a lack of committed volunteers to continue running it.

23. Saturday Program ..-
or could it work for Sundays too?
? Education for Transformation was offering this Saturday program
for the children of the community from 2006-2008.
? Realizing that the children lacked opportunities to play we decided
to avail the pre-school compound, some of the materials, and
some staff members on Saturday afternoons from 2.30 to 5pm.
? The program was free of charge, and 50-80 children attended
every Saturday.
? After 3 years, we had to stop the program for lack of committed
volunteers to take it on.
? We had intended to make the program as affordable as possible,
hoping others would copy the idea and offer similar programs.
