The SBA was created in 1953 to provide financial, technical, and management assistance to American small businesses. It has 69 offices that serve small businesses through programs like SCORE and Small Business Development Centers. The SBA guarantees loans made by lenders to small businesses and in 2014 guaranteed over $755 million in loans. It offers certification programs to help small businesses secure government contracts and export trade programs and loan guarantees to support businesses exporting overseas. District offices can provide assistance in languages besides English.
