Schools in the past were very different than today. Children would sit at individual desks in straight lines and listen to lessons given by the teacher at the front of the room. They would use slates and pens instead of paper to do their work, and would practice writing over and over in copy books. Math was taught using abacuses, and misbehaving children would be punished by being made to wear dunce hats. Teachers documented each school day in logbooks.
