  • #2: Welcome to the schools session of todays workshop. My name is. My role at Education.au as part of the edna team is.. The session will involve a brief overview of the schools website, highlighting some of the features of edna . Please feel free to ask any questions, which I will hopefully be able to provide answers to as we go along. NEXT SLIDE
  • #3: Each sector of edna has its own URL (schools.edna.edu.au) or you can navigate there through the home page of edna.
  • #4: CLICK INTO SCHOOL SECTOR Within each sector are tabs across the top of the page. The first three tabs provide access to freely available resources on edna . The remainder of the tabs link to edna services which require registration and log in e.g., groups, lists and me.edu.au. It is the news, events and resources tabs that we will breifly explore in todays session. The news headlines provide the latest education news relevant to each sector. This page is generally updated daily (dependant on news-worthy material!) In addition to viewing the news headlines on edna , you can also receive these as an rss feed. Youll see on the right hand side of the screen the edna for schools newsletter. (IF LIVE, CLICK TO SHOW NEWSLETTER) The newsletter is published fortnightly and includes recently added resources, upcoming events, news and opportunities. There is the option to subscribe to the newsletter and receive it via email.
  • #5: CLICK ON EVENTS The Australian Schools Calendar lists over 400 school related events including cultural events such as Ramadan, Health Events such as World Heart Day, fun events for example talk like a pirate day and also each State and Territory term dates so you can plan you holidays well in advance! Each event listing provides more information and a direct URL to the event website. Clicking on the calendar icon adds and event of interest direct to your Outlook calendar to help when planning future lessons and activities. The search facility allows a search of event listings: For example, events related to heart health (DEMONSTRATE) Youll see that in addition to the events calendar, we also have the opportunities and competitions calendar, and a conferences and events calendar. The conferences and events calendars are best viewed from the edna home page as this allows access to both Australian and Overseas events calendars.   • #6: Finding resources is easy. There are a variety of browse and search options and also theme pages, which have been created for a particular subject or event.
  • #7: The Key Learning Areas enable users to locate resources within each Learning Area. CLICK INTO KLAs For example, to locate resources on measurement: Curriculum resources Mathematics measurement. Breadcrumbs are shown at the top of the page so that the browse can easily to tracked. It is then possible to search within the KLA, for example, length DEMONSTRATE SEARCH FOR LENGTH NEXT SLIDE
  • #8: Resources can be found by browsing the key learning areas or under the relevant subject heading. CLICK INTO RESOURCES AND DEMONSTRATE For example to locate resources on healthy eating Again, the breadcrumbs are shown at the top of the page. In addition, the browse facility allows users to view the entire list of school browse topics. SHOW BROWSE ALL TOPICS AND DEMONSTRATE SAME SEARCH AS ABOVE (HEALTHY EATING) Also, just to explain that the number at the side of the subject area indicates the category identification number and not the number of resources available within the category.   • #9: Theme pages are designed to present teachers and students with a creative collection of online resources. There are presently over 75 theme pages and it continues to grow with new theme pages added regularly. There is also a great theme page for beginning and returning teachers. The resources linked to theme pages are grouped in a variety of ways dependant upon the subject of the page and user needs. For example, due to the broad scope of the Science theme page, it is sub-dived by subject area. In contrast, the narrow focus of the hearing and sound theme page, enables users to locate age specific activities and resources. SHOW THEME PAGES. NEXT SLIDE
  • #10: It is also possible to view the resources that are new to edna by clicking on the recently added resources tab. These resources have usually been added within the days 2-3 days.
  • #11: Suggestions of resources, events or just general comments regarding edna are always welcome and can be made at the askedna email address.
