THEME: Towards a Shared Vision:

RULES AND MECHANICS OF
SCIENCE QUIZ BEE
1. Each grade level section is entitled to have four
representatives. The representative should be a
bonafide student of their respective section.
2. The contest is divided into three (3) categories:
Easy Category, Average category, and difficult category
3. In case of tie, there is a separate category called clincher
4. Questions will be read twice by the Quizmaster. After the
second reading, the quizmaster will say go. Only then will the
contestants be allowed to write their answer. Automatically, the
allotted time will begin with the word Go by the Quizmaster.
5. After the time limit and the buzzer sounds, the quizmaster
will ask the participants to raise their answer board showing
their answer. Participants can only show and bring down their
answer board upon instruction or signal by the quizmaster.
6. The monitoring personnel will verify the answers. The
Quizmaster with the organizers shall have the sole and
exclusive authority to clear or answer any protest/
clarification made by the contestant.
7. Any means of cheating such as copying answers from
the co-participants, coaching, or using mobile phones is a
ground of disqualification.
8. No questions shall be entertained during the contest
proper
9. The top three (3) individuals with the highest score
gathered shall be declared the Champion, 1st
placer and 2nd placer.
10. Should a tie exist, the match shall go into a sudden
death. The individual contestant first to answer
two (2) questions correctly shall be declared as winner
of the tie.
CONTEST PROPER MECHANICS
EASY CATEGORY
1. The easy category consists of 10 questions.
2. Each question shall be given a predetermined number of
points corresponding to its round. For the easy category,
the corresponding point is 1 point. There is an allotted
time of 10 seconds for each question.
AVERAGE CATEGORY
1. The average category is consists of 10 questions
2. Corresponding points for average category is 2 points.
Alloted time is 20 seconds
3. The top ten (10) of the participants with the highest
score shall advance to the difficult round
DIFFICULT CATEGORY
1. The difficult category is consists of 5 questions
2. Corresponding points for difficult category is 3
points. Alloted time is 30 seconds.
The Easy round contains 10 multiple choice
questions testing basic science knowledge about
topics like cellular respiration, the hydrologic
cycle, and plant germination. The Average round
has another 10 questions on subjects such as the
parts of flowers, physical vs. chemical changes,
and classifications of matter. The Difficult round
poses 3 short answer questions about earth science
topics related to the Philippines such as the
composition of atoms, responsible government
agencies, and tsunamis.
