Jamal loses his job and struggles to find work to support his family. After several unsuccessful job interviews, his brother-in-law helps him get a job. On his first day of work, Jamal receives his salary and plans to take his family out. However, he is hit by a car while rushing to meet them and dies in the accident, leaving his family devastated.
Screenplay
- 1. FADE IN: INT. JAMAL'S HOUSE LONGSHOT Jamal comes to his house on a cycle. His children are playing and his wife is sewing her tattered clothes. Jamal opens his wallet to find out that he very less money. JAMAL (V.O.) "It's been a month since the factory I was working at, shut down. I've spent all my saving already. And I don't have a single penny to support you all financially. I've applied for 3-4 jobs but haven't got a call from any company yet". MIDSHOT Jamal sits on a plank (takht). His phone rings, he picks it up. CALLER "Hello Sir. I'm from Bombay Telecom company. You are selected for the interview of the job you applied for. Come see us tomorrow in morning at our office located at Andheri Nagar". JAMAL "Thankyou so much. I'll be there on time". LONGSHOT Jamal leaves his house for his job interview with files in his hand. FADE OUT. INT. BOMBAY TELECOM COMPANY MIDSHOT Jamal enters the Interviewer's room. CUT TO: MIDSHOT
- 2. Jamal comes out of the room, disappointed. FADE OUT. INT. JAMAL'S HOUSE MIDSHOT Jamal returns home. CLOSE-UP Jamal's sad face CUT TO: MIDSHOT Jamal's daughters playing with a doll, trying to snatch it from each other. CUT TO: MIDSHOT Jamal's son comes to his mother, Kiran . SHAHRUKH "Mom, I'm hungry. Give me some food". CLOSE-UP Kiran replying his son. KIRAN "There is no food at home." CUT TO: EXTREME LONG SHOT The daughters overhear and the children sleep without having food.
- 3. FADE OUT. FADE IN: DAY 2 LONG SHOT Jamal leaves for his job interview. FADE OUT. FADE IN: INT. TELECOM-X OFFICE,ANDHERI NAGAR LONG SHOT Jamal goes inside the interview room. MID SHOT He comes back with a disappointing face. FADE OUT. FADE IN: INT. JAMAL'S HOUSE LONG SHOT Jamal leaves home in search of work. FADE OUT. FADE IN:
- 4. EXT. STREET MID SHOT Jamal cleans a car's windshield. MIDSHOT Jamal buys french fries for his children. FADE OUT. FADE IN: INT. JAMAL'S HOUSE LONG SHOT Jamal is entering his house. CUT TO: MIDSHOT The children comes running to their father. CUT TO: LONG SHOT Jamal gives his children the eatables he got for them. CUT TO: MASTER SHOT Jamal and his wife shows a content gesture seeing their children having food. CUT TO: MIDSHOT
- 5. Jamal looks at his watch and realize that he had to go for his other job interview. FADE OUT. FADE IN: INT. INTERVIEWER'S OFFICE MIDSHOT Interviewer throws Jamal's file at the table. INTERVIWER "I can't hire you because you doesn't need to dress up even". FADE OUT. FADE IN: EXT. STREET LONG SHOT Jamal returns home. FADE OUT. FADE IN: INT. JAMAL'S HOUSE MIDSHOT Kiran talking to Jamal KIRAN "Did you get selected for the job?"
- 6. CLOSE-UP Jamal nods his head. MIDSHOT Adeel (Jamal's brother in law) in conversation with Jamal. ADEEL "Don't worry, I've talked to a friend of mine for your job. You should see him tomorrow." FADE OUT. FADE IN DAY4 EXT. OFFICE INSERT SHOT (of jamal's hand on the door knob. Jamal going inside the office. CLOSE-UP Jamal comes out of the office with a delighted face. FADE OUT. EXT. JAMAL'S OFFICE LONG SHOT Jamal is working at his office. CUT TO:
- 7. MIDSHOT Phone rings, Jamal picks it up. CUT TO: LONGSHOT Manager gives salary to Jamal. CUT TO: MIDSHOT Jamal calls his wife. JAMAL "I got my salary. I'm taking you all out. Get ready and dress up the kids as well. " FADE OUT: FADE IN: INT. SHOP LONGSHOT Jamal enters a shop. FLASHBACKS Jamal gets a flashback of his children asking for various different things. MIDSHOT Jamal buys the stuff. INSERT SHOT (OF JAMAL'S WATCH)
- 8. Jamal checks time. CUT TO: LONG SHOT Kiran and children are getting ready. FADE OUT. EXT. ROAD LONG SHOT Jamal is coming out of the shop. He tries to cross the road in a hurry. HAND-HELD MIDSHOT (of the car hitting Jamal) FADE TO BLACK. FADE IN: INT. JAMAL'S HOUSE LONG SHOT Phone rings. MIDSHOT Kiran picks up the phone. CALLER "Hello Ma'am. I'm from Sanjeevni hospital. I'm sorry to inform you that your husband Mr.Jamal has died in a car accident."
- 9. LONGSHOT Kiran drops the phone on the floor. CLOSEUP Tears are rolling down her face. MIDSHOT Kiran and youngest daughter talking. YOUNGEST DAUGHTER "Mama, what happened?" KIRAN "Your dad is no more." CLOSE UP Youngest daughter screams "Papaaa". FADE OUT.
