This document summarizes the characterization of a bacteriophage isolated from a soil sample against Mycobacterium smegmatis. Plaques formed by the phage on bacterial lawns exhibited bull's eye morphology. Electron microscopy revealed the phage belongs to the Siphoviridae family with an icosahedral capsid and tail fibers. Gel electrophoresis of restriction enzyme digests estimated the phage genome size to be approximately 70,000 bp. Future experiments will determine the phage's infectivity through a kill curve analysis.
