Self-Reflection
BY LSCC
Introduction
The simplest description of self-reflection is looking at the mirror then describing what you
see. In other words, it is a self-assessment method. You can also use the word reflection to
describe self-reflection. Reflection is thinking about something. If you have ever been in
any class, then you must know how reflection is an important study element. Sitting down
and taking some time to think or reflect about your life is very critical in getting to know
yourself, who and where you want to be and what you need to do to get there. In this
article, LifeSkills Coaching Consultants strives to enlighten you on why you should self-
reflect, and also offers some questions that you may to ask yourself during the self-
reflection process.

Why Self Reflection
The primary reasons why you will always be encouraged to conduct self-reflection is
because it is vital in building your emotional self-awareness. When you spare time to ask
yourself critical questions, you are in a better position to fathom your strengths, emotions,
weaknesses as well as any factors that drive you. Having a good understanding of aspects
relating to your self gives you a better understanding of yourself and also puts you in a
situation where you can easily adapt to the circumstances and conditions around you.

Self Reflection Cont
Self-reflection also helps you to review the effectiveness of the skills that you possess. This
prevents situations where one carries along with their activities as they have done in the
past. After interrogating yourself, you are in a position to find out whether there are better
ways through which you can improve yourself or be more efficient when you have the
opportunity to engage in that activity in the future.

Self Reflection
LifeSkills Coaching Consultants also believe that the integrity of a person tends to
increase when they take some time and reflect on their core values possessing a
very good understanding of the values that an individual deems important helps
strengthen personal decision-making.

Self Reflection
Moreover, our lives are a cycle of producing or doing where we strive to maximize our
productivity and at the same time minimize the amount of time we spend. It is these
activities that make us forget to stop and think about our lives. Stopping to think makes
new ideas emerge, and these ideas counter the risk of becoming stagnant. You should,
however, remember that you need new ideas as well as continuous change for you to
remain relevant in today's ever-changing world.

Self Reflection
LifeSkills Coaching Consultants propose questions that will help you through the process
of self-reflection. The questions can be grouped into many different categories to help
further you narrow down on the various aspects of your life. For instance, on strengths,
you can ask yourself, what are my strengths?? You can go ahead to ask yourself a question
on development areas like what skill do I need more practice with? Some other vital
questions that you can ask yourself during the self-reflection exercise include:

Sample Questions
 What am I proud of?
 What skills do I have?
What work/home related problems affect me?
What is my biggest achievement so far?
What am I happy/disappointed or happy about?
What can I do to improve my situation?
Eventually, you will arrive at a good understanding of this question: Who Am I?
https://lifeskillscoaching.co.ke/
Final Remarks
For better results, it is important to be truthful with yourself. At first, self-reflection
might seem to be difficult and sometimes embarrassing, but the more you get used to
the practice the easier it will be for you to engage in meaningful and productive self-
reflection.
In order to reflect effectively, a quieting of the mind is needed. This may involve
physically taking yourself away from noise, reducing noises around you, or mentally
shutting out distractions.
