This document discusses using blogs for teaching and learning in the classroom. Its helps to in calculate and reaching the pupils knowledge on top arrow. Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site. Blogs have common elements updated frequently informal, grouped by date with links to archives of older posts informative and inspiring frequently linked to other sites that inspired the blog and addictive for those who blog. The author of a blog is often referred to as a blogger. When we add an entry to our blogs, we may often say we blogged today. The term Weblog was coined by Jorn Berger on 17th December 1997.And the concept which is changeable short form Blog was coined by peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word Weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog peterm.com in April or May 1999.shortely thereafter, even Williams at pyra Labs used Blogs as a both a noun and verb and devised the term blogger in connection with pyra Labs blogger product leading to popularization of the term.
DEFINATION: BLOG : A personal Web site that provides updated headlines and news articles of other sites that are of interest to the user, also may include journal entries, commentaries and recommendations compiled by the user; also written web log, Weblog also called blog . TYPES: There are many different types of blogs, differing not only in the type of content, but also in the way that content is delivered or written. Personal blogs The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life, or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream, but some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following. One type of personal blog, referred to as a micro blog, is extremely detailed and seeks to capture a moment in time. Some sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family, and are much faster than emailing or writing. Corporate and organizational blogs A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, branding or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs. Similar blogs for clubs and societies are called club blogs, group blogs, or by
similar names; typical use is to inform members and other interested parties of club and member activities. By genre Some blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs (also known as travel logs), house blogs, Fashion blogs, Project blogs, Education blogs, Niche blogs, Classical music blogs, Quizzing blogs and Legal blogs ,Dream logs. Two common types of genre blogs are art blogs and music blogs. A blog featuring discussions especially about home and family is not uncommonly called a mom blog. While not a legitimate type of blog, one used for the sole purpose of spamming is known as a Slog. By media type A blog comprising videos is called a log, one comprising links is called a link log, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketch blog or one comprising photos is called a photo blog. Blogs with shorter posts and mixed media types are called tumble logs. Blogs that are written on typewriters and then scanned are called typecast or typecast blogs; see typecasting (blogging). A rare type of blog hosted on the Gopher Protocol is known as a Phlog. By device Blogs can also be defined by which type of device is used to compose it. A blog written by a mobile device like a mobile phone or PDA could be called a mob log. One early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a person's personal life combining text, video, and pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and Eye Tap device to a web site. This practice of semi- automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as surveillance. Such journals have been used as evidence in legal matters.
OBJECTIVES OF USING BLOGS IN CLASSROOM: Whenever Teacher teaching content by using blog that time he might be follow the following objectives. 1. To share opinions and learning. 2. To see knowledge as interconnected. 3. To facilitates reflection and evaluation. 4. To promote creative writing. 5. To develop a digital portfolio. 6. To teach responsible public writing. SOME IDEAS FOR USING BLOGS IN THE CLASSROOM: Autobiographical writing: Students can use the blog as a journal or diary of day-to-day life Book journaling: Students write their thoughts or respond with comments to the teachers or other students posts about a book. Science reports: Students journal the investigation process Class blog run by teacher: Informing students of important events egg homework, excursions, what to bring to school. Students can comment for clarification. Art impressions: Students comment on works of art Creative writing: Students write posts as prose or poetry and constructively critique one anothers work.
Digital portfolio: Students can record a body of work by uploading documents and images BLOOM TAXNOMY AND BLOGS: Bloom taxonomy help us teacher. Teacher makes own objectives through taxonomy. Blooms taxonomy follows the thinking process. You cannot understand a concept if you do not first remember it, similarly you can not apply knowledge and concepts if you do not understand them. It is a continuum from Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) to Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Bloom labels each category with a gerund. We can discuss the key concept through blogs .we can make bloom taxonomy based questionnaire and through blogs. ADVANTAGES OF BLOGS: 1. Blog sites can be developed with the help of simple procedures. 2. A blog post goes public, in other words, it can be accessed and read by almost everyone who have an access to internet. 3. The usage of blogs are very convenient, hence people tend to use them more frequently. 4. Students tend to improve their writing skills as blog articles should be reasonably good enough and free grammatical mistakes. 5. Students get into the habit of writing, which helps them in all their future endeavors. 6. Blog sites used as online class forums enables students with various personalities to participate in a discussion far more effectively than they can otherwise. 7. Individuals learn to express their opinions and exchange their views on topics of common interest, which not only keeps them updated but also effective contributors of new ideas.
8. Individuals get a chance to read other blogs, which indirectly helps them to improve upon their skill of writing. 9. Instructors of online classes get an opportunity to know what students feel about the class and its presentation quality and help to find ways to improve upon drawbacks if any. 10.It is place for students and individuals to share their articles and opinions with people outside their community. 11. Using a blog invites people to collaborate DISADVANTAGES OF BLOGS: 1. It involves a lot of time to update and post an entry on the blog site 2. Regular writing may give rise to slangs and sloppy way of writing spoiling the quality of proper usage of language. 3. One major drawback is that not all information can be shared on blog sites. Hence may not be useful for everyone. 4. The need to have a computer may not be feasible for everyone. 5. Individuals and students may have reluctance is getting used to the technological advancements. 6. Blogging cannot be trusted upon students who are hardly interested in reading and replying to the post. 7. Blogging on day to day issues is different from writing on the subject. Hence it may not be a practical idea to force them to do it. 8. We were talking individual blogs linked to the groups website; while it is good for students to have their own blog sites, remember not all may be able to participate, unless, all the comments are seen in one common blogging site. 9. There is no confidentiality as it is a public forum.
10.It can no way be related to conversation, as there is always a time gap in the replies received. 11.It is not suited for issues requiring immediate solution. 12.Blogs create a sense of students competing with each just for posting entries. The fear of students getting diverted away from the subject is an issue of concern. 13. The moment students open to the web it is not just the blogging site that they can have access to. The whole world of information is before them, hence there is every chance that they may get diverted away from the discussion. CONCLUSION: Blogs are a simple and a efficient way to stay informed for teaching learning process in timely manner. The Central benefits are easy to use and clear presentation of updated contents. Many blogging tools are very useful for communication with students. Blogging tools are designed to make publishing easy regardless of the users technology skill level. Some users provided announcement of a new trends in education. Even blogs are very useful for Visually Challenged students. Blogs for classroom use are not always just for students. They can act as a medium for reflection and critical thinking for educators as well. Blogs for the classroom provide a sense of community for everyone who works on and with the blog. Blogs open the lines of communication between students, the community, parents, teachers and administrators Blogs give teachers an opportunity to network and see the struggles and successes that fellow teachers go through daily. They can learn how someone else dealt with an issue and use it for their own classroom.
