Danny Thomas founded St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee in 1962 after vowing to build a shrine to St. Jude for helping his career. Since opening, St. Jude has tripled survival rates for childhood cancers through clinical research and treatment. It is renowned for never denying treatment due to costs and for its contributions to understanding and curing diseases like leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle cell disease. St. Jude continues to advance pediatric cancer research and care through a large staff and daily operations budget supported primarily by donations.
