Het aantal Italiaanse restaurants is in de afgelopen vijf jaar fors toegenomen met 13,4% van 1.180 bedrijven in 2008 naar 1.339 bedrijven in 2013. Over de afgelopen tien jaar is het aantal Italiaanse restaurants zelfs met 24,3% gestegen. In vergelijking met de totale restaurantsector is het totaal aantal bedrijven over dezelfde periode slechts met 9,1% (10 jaar) en 3,0% (5 jaar) gestegen. Overigens doet de Zuid-Europese keuken het goed in de afgelopen vijf jaar.
