2. Music
Music is used within certain parts of the podcast to set the theme
according to the conversation occurring. However, when using
instrumentals within a podcast; they must make sure they ask for
permission for using another artists piece of music therefore they will
not violate the copyright legislation. Music used within podcast make it
seem a bit more lively and it may draw a wider audience in as there is a
different range of sound used in the podcast and it isn’t very dull.
3. Dialogue
There is dialogue used within the podcast to introduce Serial to new
members of the audience. Dialogue is also used within the beginning of
the podcast to give a brief history check to those who may not know
what Serial is about. There is also dialogue used within the podcast to
tell the audience what has been going on and what is there aim. Within
this episode they are trying to find out what happened to a girl who
seemed to have disappeared one January afternoon and to have the
alibi of a young man who may be involved in what may be seen as a
terrible murder case. Although, the speaker is not a detective she had
to ask as many questions to people who knew the missing girl just to
get an understanding of what may be going on and why.
4. Interview
Interviews were made during the podcast so that the interviewer could
find out every ones whereabouts and realise for herself who may or
may not be involved. She also held this interview to show that most
people she interviewed may not remember where they were during
the night of the girls disappearance. However, she soon realised that
not everyone will have a clear remembrance of where they were that
January afternoon because nothing significant happened that
afternoon to be remembered. There was only one teenager who
remembered his whereabouts that day because it was the night to
remember.
6. Incidental music/ Aural motifs
An aural motif behaves as if it is a theme tune. They use the same music
instrumental within the podcast to make it familiar to the audience as it is
repetitive throughout particular sections of the podcast for a short amount of
time. Hiring a composer to provide you with customized theme music is a great
branding idea if you have the resources to employ a professional. You can also
find free Podcast music for all of these musical genres. We’ll explore both ideas
in this chapter. There are several instrument families that you can use in your
podcast branding. Instrument families to consider are strings, brass,
woodwinds, and percussion. Strings include instruments like the guitar, bass,
violin, viola, cello, harp, and piano. The Brass family includes instruments such
as the trumpet, tuba, trombone, and French horn. Woodwinds include
instruments like the bassoon, flute, piccolo, saxophone, the clarinet, and the
oboe. Some percussion instruments include the drums, glockenspiel, and hand
bells.
