RESPONSE
FAITH: From the Greek word
pistis; Latin fides
Usually translated as faith
But the best translation is
trust or trustworthy
FAITH
Dictionary definition:
to be of well-founded conviction; to agree with an
authority; to trust something on the basis of
probability; complete confidence in a person or
thing.
This is the meaning of faith in everyday life, usually
based on knowledge,
experience
and trust.

FAITH
Theological definition:
The absolute assent of a human being based
on inner certainty which is demonstrated in
belief and trust in and love of God as a
personal response;
belief in the truth of a revealed religion.
In other words
 Faith is knowing and
trusting God.
 A Christians faith is
about his/her
relationship with God.
 Knowing God through
Jesus Christ and the
Church He founded
 Trusting His call and
His promise
From Sacred Scripture:
Faith is the substance of things
hoped for the evidence of things not
seen.
Hebrews 11 : 1
Faith vs Reason or Faith and
Reason?
The Faith of a Christian
It is a response in trust, hope and obedience to Gods love.
By faith, we believe in God and all that God has revealed.
Indeed, faith is not just an intellectual affirmation of
truths; faith is a verb. Faith is a graced response to our
self-revealing God.
This goes for the faith of the church as well as for the faith
of the individual who is trying to discern a path through
life.
 Faith is necessary for salvation.
Faith makes sense of the relationship between God and
human beings on the basis of Gods saving activity through
Jesus Christ.
It is a belief in God so deep that many have given their
lives for it.
In Jesus teaching faith is necessary for Him to be alive and
present in the world today.
What faith is not
Faith is not wishful thinking.
Faith is not irrational
Faith is not a leap in the dark.
It is a response to the one, real God
who has made Himself known to us and called
us into the light. For faith comes from what is heard, and
what is heard comes through the Word of God. Romans
10:17
Faith is not impersonal.
Faith is not a thing that you must muster up.
Faith is a personal trust relationship with another person,
God.

Faith Summary (YouCat21)
Faith is a sheer gift of God, which we receive
when we fervently ask for it.
Faith is the supernatural power that is absolutely
necessary if we are to attain salvation.
Faith requires free will and clear understanding of
a person when he accepts the divine invitation.
Faith is absolutely certain because Jesus
guarantees it.
Faith is incomplete unless it leads to active love.
Faith grows when we listen more and more
carefully to Gods Word and enter a lively
exchange with God in prayer.
Faith gives us even now a foretaste of the joy of
heaven.

The Need for Community
THE HUMAN BEING IS
A SOCIAL ANIMAL
HUMAN BEINGS FORM
COMMUNITIES
TOGETHER
HUMAN BEINGS
WORSHIP
TOGETHER
WE BELONG TO A
COMMUNITY CALLED
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
JESUS FORMED
COMMUNITY
Appointed 12 apostles
(apostellein Gk. sent forth,
apostolos Gk. messenger)
Performed miracles which
restored the outcasts and
marginalised to full membership
of society
The perfect prayer, the Lords
prayer refers to Our Father,
our daily bread, our
trespasses, nowhere does the
first person singular appear.
JESUS FOUNDED THE
CHURCH
Commissioned Peter to be the head of His
Church. (Matt. 16:13-20)
Promised the Holy Spirit. Jn. 14:26 The
advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in my name, will teach you everything, and
remind you of all that I have said to you.
This community had to be founded on love.
Jn. 13:34 I give you a new commandment, that
you love one another. Just as I have loved you,
you also should love one another.
Sent the apostles out into the world to spread
the Good News and promised to be with His
Church till the end of time (Matt. 28: 18 20)
WE ARE THE BODY OF
CHRIST
Romans 12: 4 5
For as in one body you have many members and
not all members have the same function, so we,
who are many, are one body in Christ, and
individually, we are members one of another.
1 Corinthians 12: 12 13
For just as the body is one and has many
members, and all the members of the body, though
many, are one body so it is with Christ. For in the
one Spirit we were all baptized into one body
Jews and Greek, slaves or free and we were all
made to drink of one Spirit.

PRAYER OVER THE
INQUIRERS(EPH 3:15-19)
Out of His infinite glory may He give you the power through
His Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong,
So that Christ may live in your hearts through faith,
And then planted in love and built on love, you will, with all
the saints,
Have strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height
and the depth;
Until, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all
knowledge,
You are filled with the utter fullness of God.
Amen.
PRAYER OF THE
INQUIRERS
Lord,
Let me see your face
Know your heart
And experience your love in my life.
Strengthen in me the precious gift of faith.
I believe Lord,
Help my unbelief.
Amen.
