A 10-year-old Hanoverian mare was brought to Utrecht University's Department of Equine Sciences with a severely damaged hoof that was split into two movable parts. To stabilize the hoof, veterinarians glued an open toe aluminum shoe on and screwed an aluminum plate to the wall. Over several months of treatment that involved re-shoeing and monitoring the mare's hoof growth, the mare recovered completely by July 26th.
