They ruled in Gujarat from the latter half of the tenth century to the beginning of the thirteenth century. Their capital was in Anahilwad. It is not certain whether it had any relation with the Chalukya dynasty of the south or not. It is worth mentioning that the name of the dynasty of the south was 'Chaluky' while the dynasty of Gujarat has been called 'Chaulukya'. - 1. Moon Tears (Las l叩grimas de la luna) An old Mapuche story says that the moon, Cuy辿n, and the sun, Ant炭, got married being crazy in love, one fall night in the presence of Nguenechen, God. Cuy辿n was gentle and had a tender heart, she was in charge of the needs of women and children; on the other hand, Ant炭 had a brave heart and was in charge of all men. Everything was going perfectly, they would spend their days going across the sky, taking care of all Mapuche people, but as time went by, Cuy辿n and Ant炭 started to have arguments and different opinions which led to an absolute break up. From that moment, they began to travel through the skies alone. Ant炭 came up during the day and Cuy辿n during the night. One day, when Ant炭 was warming up the earth, he noticed a beautiful woman, falling in love with her immediately. He took her to the sky and named her golden star Collipal, better known as bright star. One Night, Cuy辿n went out across the skies earlier than usual and catched Ant炭 and Collipal kissing with love. Without being able to hold it back, Ant炭 cried so much that her tears reached the Mapu, the ground. The story says that this was the way the big and gorgeous lakes from the south were created, and Cay炭, the moon, was able to smile again when she saw the beauty of what she had created.
- 2. The legend of Kaykay and Txegtxeg (La leyenda de Kaykay y Txegtxeg) The story says there was a big flood caused by a negative force. A fight started between Kaykay, the snake of evil who wanted to kill all living creatures, and Txegtxeg, the snake of good. Kaykay, the snake of the seas, overflew the waters to punish the people, while the snake of the land, Txegtxeg, rose the lands and created the mountains to save the Mapuche people. The Mapuche people found shelter at the top of the hills and they took with them pitchers full of food. Kaykay would send more and more water, but Txegtxeg would make the mountains higher. They fought like that during many moons, till one day Kaykay surrendered. When the waters came down, only four survivors were left, an old man and an old woman, and a young man and a young woman. The young couple were allowed to be the beginning of their people and the old couple received the job of feeding the youth with knowledge and wisdom. That way, the Mapuche culture was born. The people who stayed up in the mountains died burnt by the sun and those who stayed in the bottom became fish, rocks, birds and plants. The people who stayed in the middle saved themselves and obtained a great spiritual strength to survive.
