 THEY MUST BE SMALL, LOW PROFILE WITH MINIMAL PROCESSING COSTS.
 LOW EFFICIENCY AND NARROW BANDWIDTH.
 THE FLEXIBILITY AFFORDED BY MICROSTRIP ANTENNA TECHNOLOGY HAS LED
TO A WIDE VARIETY OF DESIGN AND TECHNIQUES.
 THE BANDWIDTH OF THE MICROSTRIP ANTENNA CAN BE INCREASED USING
VARIOUS TECHNIQUES.
SHORTING
 THE OPERATING FREQUENCY OF MSA IS HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON ITS
DIMENSIONS.
 FOR LOWER FREQUENCIES THE SIZE OF THE CONVENTIONAL MSAS IS LARGE.
 A COMMON TECHNIQUE TO REDUCE THE OVERALL SIZE OF A MICROSTRIP
PATCH ANTENNA IS SHORTING.
 SHORTING IS DONE BY TERMINATING ONE OF THE RADIATING EDGES WITH A
SHORT CIRCUIT.
 THE SHORT CIRCUIT CAN BE IN THE FORM OF A METAL CLAMP OR A PIN.

 CONSIDER A RECTANGULAR RMSA WITH A SINGLE SHORTING POST IN THE
MIDDLE OF THE EDGE ALONG THE WIDTH.

PLACED AT ONE CORNER OF THE RMSA.
 VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION VARIES FROM ZERO AT THE SHORT LOCATION TO A
MAXIMUM VALUE AT THE DIAGONALLY OPPOSITE CORNER.
