Taxonomy

a hierarchical arrangement of categories within the user

Taxonomy is hard for 2 reasons:
2/6/2013
1- using the RIGHT words - (This is really about
ONTOLOGY what we mean when we say what we
say, but it doesnt matter what its called. If you do it
wrong you and your taxonomy are screwed)
2- grouping things the BEST way This is
SUBJECTIVE, because we dont all think about things
the same way. Actually so was the first one. Its all
subjective.

a few rules of thumb
(not really) based on trees
each thing has a place
miscellaneous is not a category,
it is an admission of failure
things only get one place
categories should be just right
not too big or too small
make it obvious what defines
a category
aka get your LABELING right
