Leticia Pereira dos Santos is a social activist born in Brazil in 1978 who moved to Italy at age 13. She has faced racism as a woman of color in both Italy and Brazil. She works as an intercultural facilitator in schools in Italy to promote cultural understanding and represents women of color. She is now preparing to graduate with a degree in social studies from the University of Turin.

Worked as a babysitter in the interim. Being treated as a menial by her employers motivated her to continue her education with new focus and direction. Many are immigrants from South America and Africa, who suffer the double stigma of racism and economic disadvantage. I feel alone: first, because I know few black women that have studied here in Genoa or Turin; second, because being an activist means having the consciousness of what you are and where you want to go. Unfortunately Italy limits the high places for (´) people (that) are different, especially if you are black(´). That¨s why I want to move on again. My mother worked hard to give me a better life and it is impossible here in Italy. I would like (to) live where my rights are really recognized´ ̄
