This document provides instructions and exercises for developing sketching skills. It defines sketching as free-hand drawing used to record ideas before final drafting. The objectives are to develop hand control through sketching exercises drawing straight, curved, and diagonal lines. Students are evaluated on line quality, sketching style, and craftsmanship. They are directed to complete sketching assignments and reminded to be honest, patient, efficient, and have fun.

REVIEW COMPASS This is used in drawing circles. Hinge can be adjusted depending on the measurement. DIVIDER This is used for dividing, transferring and checking measurements.

SKETCHING CURVED LINES Little finger or another material (e.g. pencil) as pivot
REMEMBER!  Concentrate so that you may have good hand control.  There are no perfect straight lines or circles on a sketched drawing.  Practice (with techniques) makes perfect!
