When does RT dermatitis shows up??
• It starts after 13-14 fraction of completion of RT treatment.
• Aggravates along the course of RT.
• Acute reaction is at its peak during 4th
to 5th
week of treatment.
• And settles down in 2-3 months.
Make your patient aware before starting RT-
Skin Care
Skin care during RT
• To wear loose, soft cotton clothing (preferred), avoid wearing undergarments / inner wears .
• Avoid sweat, excessive sun exposure, heat or even dry weather.
• Fan >> AC
• Hydrate yourself and your skin.
• Avoid shaving – trimming allowed.
• Wash skin from time to time – do not RUB.
• Use gentle / baby soaps - chemical and fragrance free.
• Moisturize twice. And ALWAYS AFTER RT, do not apply cream before RT treatment. – avoid in broken
area of skin.

• Oil based creams – reduce incidence of dry desquamation and pain.
• High grade radiation dermatitis is reduced in steroid group when
compared to petroleum based products.
• Hyluronate based cream – reduces incidence of late skin toxicities and
results in better recovery of high grade skin toxicity.
