6. Old Economic Model
Wealth is held by the
Industrialists, Factory
and Machine
Owners, Landlords
They pay workers enough to
keep them working, but low
enough to maximise their
Profits
7. New Economic Model
Wealth is held by
Providers of
Platforms, Ideas,
Knowledge,
Inspiration
They engage workers who
are based in different
locations, in collaborative
and flexible manner
10. The Status Effect
Past:
? Spatial demarcation bestows authority and
status (Speaker on stage, Leader on the Power
Seat on a Boardroom, the Corner Office)
? Possible to display status through body language,
grooming
Now:
? Spatial effect of status is flattened by virtual
communication space
? Technology is s leveler / game-changer
11. The Accessibility Effect
Past:
? The “cost of entry” for events, membership
(financial, geographical barriers)
? Extraverts “work the room” have the
advantage
Now:
? Communicating across physical spaces
virtually
? People crave community and connection
? Introverts can communicate from the
comfort of their comfortable space
12. The Psychological Anchoring Effect
Past:
? People go to different physical spaces for meetings,
trainings, conferences.
? As they change places, they settle in different states of mind.
Now:
? People could be consuming entertainment, replying emails,
shopping online through the same 13 inch screen
? Harder to shift between psychological spaces

don’t assess them by the

remember:
? Peaks
? Pits
? Transitions

(Smoothen)
22. Fill the Pits
Things to Say / Questions to Ask:
? I noticed _______, do you want to talk
about it?
? I don’t know if I can help or offer any
advise, but I’ll listen…
24. Smoothen the Transitions
Things to Say / Questions to Ask:
? What’s challenging about _______?
? If there’s something that might make
things easier, what might that be?
26. Power of Moments Exercise
RIGHT NOW… Reach out to someone you know who
may be experiencing any of these moments:
? Peak – e.g. A birthday, an anniversary, getting married, getting a
promotion, just had a child
? Pits – e.g. Lost of job, separation, financial challenges
? Transitions – e.g. Changing to a new job, moving to a new
home/city/country
