About HACKATHON
New Delhi Institute of Management (NDIM) is one of the two Management Institutes
amongst the 26 institutes across the country chosen as Nodal Centers by Ministry of HRD,
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to host the prestigious Grand Finale of
`Smart India Hackathon 2017 competition, a unique initiative to identify new and
disruptive digital technology innovations for solving the challenges faced by our country.
The Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2017 will be 36 hrs non-stop digital product
development competition organized simultaneously across 26 different locations in India
during which 1250 teams (per team 8 members, 10,000 participants) shortlisted out of out of
7531 teams of technology students will build innovative digital solutions for the 598
problems (listed on https://innovate.mygov.in/sih) posted by 29 different central govt.
ministries/ departments e.g. Ministry of Railways, External Affairs, Ministry of Defense,
ISRO, Ministry of Tourism, Dept. of Atomic Energy, etc. For the first time, govt.
departments were directly engaging with students and challenging them to build digital
solutions to improve their efficiency, plug revenue leakages and corruption.
NDIM will host approx. 30 teams of 8 participants each from different engineering colleges
across the country on 1st & 2nd Apr 2017.
The participating teams will get a chance to offer digital yet sustainable innovative solutions
to solve real time challenges faced by the nation. It will harness the creativity of millions of
bright young minds. The winners will get support for converting their ideas into startups apart
from cash prizes. There will be multiple prizes worth Rs. 50 lakhs for students but more
importantly, the participating ministries will adopt many of the products developed during the
Grand Finale. NASSCOM and other funding agencies like AICTE, DST, DBT and ICMR
will also select best ideas to convert into startups.
This is in line with our Honble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modis vision of a Digital
India to bridge the digital divide in our country and further promote digital literacy in order to
make development a comprehensive mass movement and put governance within everyones
reach in India.
The initiative is aimed to institutionalize a model for harnessing the creativity and technical
expertise of 3.0 + million students for direct benefit of our nation. Mr. Prakash Javadekar,
Honble Minister, Ministry of HRD is the Chief Patron of this unique initiative, while Dr.
Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE & Dr. Anand Deshpande, Chairman, Founder & MD,
Persistent Systems are the Chairman and Co-chairman of the organizing committee of this
initiative respectively. NIC, MyGov, NASSCOM, UGC and Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini are
co-organizers in this initiative. Besides this, several union ministries have agreed to be
partners in this initiative.
Smart India Hackathon 2017 is a collaborative computer programming competition which
involves all Engineering colleges with a reach to approximately 30 Lakh students from across
India who care deeply about the issues and technology impacting projects. The event plans to
challenge the students to think out-of-the-box and offer innovative ideas to build smart
applications which will help address major real time problems in our country.
The event is expected to be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the World's
biggest Hackathon event.

officials, etc. from there arrival till they left
