The automated weaning protocol can be initiated for intubated or tracheostomy ventilated patients weighing at least 15kg who are spontaneously breathing, hemodynamically stable and adequately oxygenated. The protocol requires a spontaneous breathing frequency between 15-30 breaths per minute, a spontaneous tidal volume greater than 300ml, and an end tidal CO2 less than 55mmHg based on guidelines from Drager Medical instruction manuals.
