This document discusses Southern and Northern blotting techniques. It describes the principles of Southern blotting where DNA is separated by gel electrophoresis, transferred to a membrane, and probed with a labeled DNA probe to detect complementary DNA sequences. It also mentions different fluorogenic substrates that can be used like ECF and DDAO for detecting fluorescence of labeled DNA probes bound to membranes in Southern or Northern blots. Images can then be captured and fluorescence quantified for analysis.
