2. It is an indisputable fact that the children are the
most precious asset of their parents and of the
nation. It may seem natural to assume, therefore,
that the majority of adults want the best for their
children. Nevertheless, all of us who want
something for our children takes-on the decline
required and the time to know if that is what really
wants the child? Most of the time, adults believe
that they know better, and therefore, exclude
children of the decision-making processes. The
sport among young people, unfortunately, is a
primary example of this phenomenon.
In 1987 the Athletic Footwear Association
of America has sponsored a study of
10,000 students aged 10-18 who were
expressing their feelings about the sport.
The students have responded to questions
such as: Why have they done this or that
sport? Why have they stopped? And what
types of changes think ought they too they
are still involved in a sport that they have
abandoned?

3. The discovery the most important for the study was that win
(which was the purpose the more confessed and continued
in the sport) was never class higher than seventh place
(even among the athletes the most competitive). "Have fun
and improve my skills" were regularly the first two choices
for which the students had chosen to play a sport. When we
asked why they had stopped, three of the first five reasons
were "I was not playing, "The coach was a bad teacher", and
"there was too much pressure". How many of us would
have predicted this result?
The amusement is essential; if this is not "fun", the
young people will not engage long the sporting
activity. The development of the competence is a
crucial aspect of amusement; it is more important
than winning (even among the best athletes). The
challenge the more remunerative of the sport and the
main role is the self-knowledge. The intrinsic rewards
(self-knowledge that grows out of the competition)
are more important to create athletes of the life that
the extrinsic rewards (victory or the attention of the
other).

4. Of The authors of The American Youth and
Sports Participation have proposed the
following points for the coaches and
parents who are willing to develop a
philosophy of the alternative drive:

5. You remember the "truths".
Look for workshops and
training programs that are
learning the skills of sports
related but aussi developer
your spirit of
communication and your
interpersonal skills that will
help you with the parents
and your kids. Try to work
with the parents and to
make full-fledged members
of the team rather than
watching as criticisms to
avoid.

6. You remember the "truths" and talk to your children. (After a game, talk
about their "fun", "improvement of the competence", "learning
experiences損) .Do you see as an integral part of the team and positive
with the coach; avoid installing a conflict in the mind of your child
between his parents and coaches. If you want to participate in the drive,
do you propose to help? Expand the perspective: you remember what you
could do with the ages of your children; do not judge by what you can do
now. Develop an understanding of what your child wants the sport-- all
children do not want the same things. Determine if he or she wants to be
involved at all.
