Major social bookmarking sites include StumbleUpon, which allows users to rate pages, Digg, which ranks news stories, and Delicious, which makes it easy to synchronize bookmarks across multiple computers. Social bookmarking has become essential for accessing bookmarks from different locations and networks.

What is Social Bookmarking Social bookmarking is another way for communities to organize their list of web pages. These web pages will be organized by most social bookmarking sites by the use of Tags.
Importance & Use Social bookmarking is essential to people who are trying to access consolidated bookmarked web pages from different networks. It simplifies the research as well as saves time and minimizes the human error. The social bookmarking softwares are able to organize a large number of bookmarks, and share them within a network such as a class or work place.
The three major Social Bookmarking websites The three major Social Bookmarking websites being used on the market now are: Stumbleupon Digg Del.icio.us
Stumbleupon The Stumbleupon website rates web pages during a search and stores them for later use. When browsing the web, whenever you come across a website that interests you, you can click the thumbs up button in the downloaded toolbar. And if you dont like a page, you can hit the thumbs down button.
Digg Digg allows its users to rank news stories and videos from all over the Web. To become a user you only need to sign up with a free username then you are ready to Digg web pages and stories you find on the Internet. It displays up to 25 most popular stories with links to additional pages.
Del.icio.us The del.icio.us website, joined Firefox to make it easy to synchronize bookmarks between multiple computer networks. del.icio.us has been available in the bookmarking service for a couple of years now, and with its extension version 1.3.59, integrated with the Firefox browser, is much easier to use. It's a great leap forward in bookmarking and makes browsing significantly faster and easier.
