Benny Se Teo Moh Wah is the founder of 18 Chefs, an social enterprise established in 2007. As an ex-convict, he faced challenges finding employment after prison due to his criminal record. This experience motivated him to open 18 Chefs to employ other ex-convicts and help them reintegrate into society. The restaurant offers affordable food and trains ex-convicts to become chefs. In the early years, low awareness of the business and lack of trust in the ex-convict employees made it difficult to earn a profit.

I remember in 1993 when I was released from prison last time, I wanted very much to integrate into society. At that time, I wanted to get a job so I went for a number of job interview. Because of my drug record, I was turned away by the employer politely.

He also said : Because of the experience that I go through during the interview process, I tell myself that if one day I were to open a business myself I will definitely employ ex-convicts so that they can have a new lease of life
He said : It is my Passion and Love for Food since I was young. My interest in cooking that leads me to choose to do my business in the food and beverage industry. I also like to read other people recipe but I know that having recipe that is good but no knows about is no use. So I want people to know the good cooking recipe that I have and the only way to do that is to go into the food and beverage industry.
18 Chefs offers good food, They train ex-convicts into chefs so that they can be able to work in the restaurant and thus able to integrate back into the society. I8 Chefs offers affordable price that is only slightly above the food court price.
Firstyear, the business was new, no resident around Simei know his business much and he also do not know Simei much. Even there are people who knows his business, they dont trust the workers there. The income of the first two years was just enough to pay the pay of the workers, sometimes they have to take out money to cover up the lost of the company.
