3. VIDEO GAME ADDICTION
Video game addiction can be described as the excessive
or compulsive use of computer games or the video
games, that will interferes the persons day to day life.
It will results in compulsive gaming, social isolation,
mood swings, diminished imagination and hyper-focus on
in-game achievements, that will lead to the exclusion of
other life events.
In May 2013, American Psychiatric Association (APA)
proposed the criteria for video game addiction in
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder.

attachment and the story makes it harder to stop playing
the game.
The thrill of discovery about new facts in the game is
extremely compelling.
Online gaming creates an emotional attachment with
other gamers.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, associated with the long
use of computer
Migraines, starts as headache and slowly spreads
which makes it more painful
Sleep Disturbance, which is caused by over
stimulation of the brain
Backaches, caused due to the same seated position
for hours.
Eating Irregularities, caused due to eating unbalanced
food at irregular intervals.
Poor Personal Hygiene, due to not taking proper care

Addicted gamers spend so much time playing the games
as a result their personal relationships get neglected.
Among married people, up to 50% has a strain in their
marriage due to the addiction of video games.
Some of them talk so much about their game of choice
which results in the exclusion of everything else and as a
result people no longer want to be around them.
The lack of social interaction which is a results from
obsessive gaming will have long-term social
consequences.

Main concern about the violence in the video game is
that it is not passive.
In order to play and win the game, the must be
aggressive.
The violence in the video games are often been
rewarded rather than getting punished.
Most of the recent school shootings were carried by
avid gamers.

and respond to aggressive acts.

Time restriction- only a certain amount of time must
be used to play video games
Outdoor plays and activities should be practiced
once in a week with family or with the friends.
Avoid situations in which there is a need of spending
a whole day in front of the computer.
Attending summer campus or going on a long drive
is also a remedy.
Participate in school clubs, community groups or in
sports
Look for specialized therapist.
