THE NUMBERS 75% White Americans dont believe theres racial bias in justice system +50% of White Americans dont think race is a significant issue Black kids are more likely to be tried as adults than white kids More to be sentenced to life in prison likely African American mens prison sentences were, on average, 20% longer than white mens prison sentences when convicted of similar crimes Black people are three times more likely to be arrested for drug possession despite white people using drugs at similar rates Black former inmates are far less likely to get callbacks from potential employers than white former inmates regardless of the crimes committed #KSUsj

OHIO STATE RIOTS The Ohio State University Football team won the National Championship on Jan. 12th, 2015. Fans celebrated by rioting in Columbus, OH. Tear gas was deployed, fires started, damage and injuries reported. #KSUsj
FERGUSON, MISSOURI RIOTS Michael Brown, a young black man, was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, a white FPD officer. On November 24th, 2014, a grand jury decided it would not indict Wilson in the shooting of Brown. Many protests, some peaceful some not Tear gas was deployed, fires started, damage reported. #KSUsj
OSU RIOTS VS. FERGUSON RIOTS Columbus, OH Rioting, because OSU won a football game Ferguson, MO Rioting, for civil rights #KSUsj

SOCIALIZATION We are ALL influenced by our upbringing, the media, our education, and more. As such, biases exist! Were human. Socialization is a lifelong process. Constant awareness and continuous education is key. We need to learn. We need to want to learn. #KSUsj
#BLACKLIVESMATTER Systemic and historical oppression targeting Black Americans Oppression = cruel, unjust treatment with power dynamics #BlackLivesMatter highlights these injustices Awareness, education, continuing the conversation #KSUsj
#ALLLIVESMATTER THE WHITE RESPONSE What are thoughts on this? Is this acceptable? Is this problematic? #KSUsj
#ALLLIVESMATTER THE WHITE RESPONSE It IS a racist, ignorant, and dismissive response #BlackLivesMatter doesnt mean others dont Obviously, all lives are important But this isnt about YOU (white people) Not ALL lives are targeted the same way the Black community is White privilege is being outraged and angered by the Ferguson Decision, rather than utterly terrified Scott Mendelson #KSUsj
