SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY ASSIGNMENT 3: FINAL PROJECT (PSY30203)
INTRODUCTION
In this project we are asked to choose one of the concepts in Social Psychology module to
create a space that can relate to the concepts. We have decided to choose the prosocial behavior.
Prosocial behavior means a voluntary work that helps or benefits other individuals.
From that chosen concept, which is Prosocial Behavior, we create a restaurant that is run
by donations. It is a restaurant which serves people from various status. From the homeless, to
orphanage, to the old folks, we serves all of them. Even though it is a non-profitable restaurant,
this place provides positive vibes as well as peacefulness for everyone to dine in and enjoy their
meals.
All of the money collected from the donation box will be split into two, 80% will be
donated to charity and the remaining percent will be used for maintaining the restaurant. The
location of this restaurant is in Beachst Penang. The business hours will be from 10am in the
morning to 10pm at night.

THE LAYOUT
Entrance
There are two entrance in this restaurant, one is the main entrance for everyone to enter. The
second one would be just for the homeless to enter their private space to dine in. We created two
entrance so that the homeless would not feel discriminated by the common people when they
enter the restaurant.
Toilet
The toilet are located at the far back of the restaurant. People who wanted to use the toilet has to
pay 20 cents. This is for the purpose of keeping the toilet clean and safe for everyone to use.
Donation Box
The donation box is for the people to donate as many as they want. This restaurant would not be
having any cashier. Once you are done eating, just donate as much as you prefer.
Kitchen
The kitchen is a self-service basis. The people will have to go to the kitchen bar to order the food
they want, then they will have to wait for it to be prepared. The workers job in this restaurant is
to cook and prepare the food for the customers, and keeping the restaurant clean.
The Homeless Dine Area
The homeless people will enter this are from the second entrance. They will be served with food,
and they do not need to donate or pay for anything. They just come here, have a fine and relaxing
place to eat but they are not allowed to sleep here.

The Orphanage Dine Area
This area are for the orphanage only. The reason why we created this area so that the orphanage
would not get that one kind of a look from the common people. The orphanage area is colorful so
that it brings the joy and good vibe for the orphans to enjoy their meal. They will be coming here
every day to have free meals.
The Old Folks Dine Area
The area for the old folks are painted with cool colors so that it brings calmness to the old folks.
They can enjoy their meal peacefully without having to listen to distractions of people talking
and laughing in the common area.
The Common Area
This area is open for everyone that wants to come to our restaurant. But they will need to donate
to the donation box right after ordering. The free food only applies to the homeless, the
orphanage and the old folks.

SUBRELATED CONCEPTS
From the prosocial behavior concept, we have decided to connect them with other concepts
which is attitude, schema, discrimination and stereotype.
Attitude is related where we created this restaurant, it benefits the homeless people, the old
folks as well as the orphanage but we are not expecting anything in return. 80% of the donation
money will be given to the charity. Basically we earned no profit at all, but it still benefits other
people. It is good since this world needs more of this rather than violence.
Schema is related in the part which this is a self-service restaurant. The people will need to
go to the kitchen bar, look at the menu lists, order the food that they would like to order, donate
the amount of money that they prefer and then wait at the waiting counter to pick up the food that
they have ordered. Soon after collecting their food, they find a place to sit and they enjoy their
meal. This does not apply to the homeless people. They will be served by us.
This restaurant actually reduces the amount of discrimination towards the homeless and
the poor, as well as stereotyping them. This is shown by the layout of the restaurant itself. The
homeless people will be having their own personal space to dine. Same goes to the orphanage as
well as the old folks whereas for the common people, they have their open space right in the
middle. This is because the common people tend to get uncomfortable if the homeless were in the
same room with them. They will stereotype then discriminate them. When this happens, the
homeless would feel small and hurt.
