Social stories were introduced in 1993 by Carol Gray to help people with autism spectrum disorder better understand social situations through short, simple stories that objectively share important social information. The goal of social stories is to address difficulties people with ASD experience socially by explaining social concepts and skills in an easy to understand way. Social stories aim to improve social understanding, not change behavior, which may then lead to enhanced social functioning and behavior.

Social stories
1. Social skills acquisition tools and methods
Social stories were first introduced by
Carol Gray in 1993 and the others cite
Gray 1998 and 2004. The primary
goal of Social Stories are to address
debilitating difficulties that people with
ASD encounter socially. They are
short stories written with the goal of
objectively sharing important social
information with individuals with ASD.
They explain difficult social situations
and concepts in simple words, thereby
providing students with 'practical,
tangible social information' about a
person, skill, event, concept, or
situation Social stories are not a
means to change behavior, rather an
intervention to have a better social
understanding that may lead to
improved social functioning and
behavior. (Kokina & Kern, 2010)
