Carly Schmand is a junior outfielder for the Brandeis softball team. As a freshman, she started in centerfield in 45 games, leading the team with 11 assists and posting a .437 on-base percentage. In her sophomore year, she started 43 games in centerfield and had five hits in the conference tournament. She continues to utilize her speed, strong arm, and fielding ability in the outfield for the Brandeis softball team.

Majoring in Psychology with a Mi- nor in Business. off to a fast start the first week of the 2009 season, tallying five hits during the con- ference tournament in Florida where she also played flawlessly in the outfield for the second year in a row. 2008 Exhibiting good speed, a solid arm with an extremely quick release, and the willingness to dive for balls, Schmand quickly established herself early on in her freshman year as the Judges starting centerfielder, going on to play in 45 games, starting in all but one of them. With great field sense, particularly at the Judges home field, Schmand led all out- fielders in assists with an astounding 11. At the plate, Schmand was among the team leaders in walks with 20 which dou- bled her amount of strikeouts (10) for an impressive 2:1 walk to strikeout ratio. On the season, she finished with a very im- pressive .437 on-base percentage. High School Schmand came to Brandeis as the starting varsity shortstop for Walt Whitman High School the last four years, as well as the starting short- stop for the Maryland Champions summer travel team. While at Walt Whitman, Schmand also swung a big stick for the Vikings, hitting .376 for her high school career and amassed a .500 hitting aver- age for the Champions. 2009 Once again utilizing all of the tools she exhibited her freshman year, Schmand returned to lead the outfield again in 2009, starting in 43 games on the year for the Judges as a sophomore, all at the centerfield position.
