Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer, scientist and futurist. He was born in 1917 in England and died in 2008 in Sri Lanka at the age of 90. Clarke co-wrote the screenplay for 2001: A Space Odyssey with Stanley Kubrick, which was revolutionary for its special effects and minimal dialogue. The film is still considered a classic of science fiction cinema. Clarke spent much of his later life in Sri Lanka, where he died, as he enjoyed scuba diving in the waters off the coast of the island nation.
