Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe
their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your
story.
New culture, new country, new family, new school, new people. Everything here are new to me.
Leaving my family behind, along with my mother, we put the first step on the United State. I still
remember the second day I woke and walked out of the door, the first sentence popped out from
my mouth is that is this America. There is no people, no car. The loneliness soon displaced by
initial excitement. It is not a place I have thought. First day of week is daunting.
I have always been told in order to become successful in business world you must have some
special connections and hooks. These perceptions have been really concerned and even
prevented me from pursing business major. Because I have always told that pursing a business
path will be unrealistic to you. So my parents have always encouraged me to be a dentist. And I
decided I am going to be a dentist until I attended a workshop hosted by youth speaker Grant
Baldwin. During his workshop, which is called Reality Check, he talked about what major we
should choose. The three criteria for choosing a major deeply crave in my mind: first, something
you are passionate about; something you are good at; something you enjoy doing. When I try to
answer these three questions, my hear beats accelerated when I find out my answer to these
three is the same- the business! However this is not much a surprise since I have always knew
that I love business! I love to earning money: a few of my hobbies are to hosting a real estate sale
which display our beautiful home but also at the same time put used items my parents and I have
purchased over the weekend on sale. I usually serve as a cashier and truly enjoyed the job-being
able to promote products to customers and handling money. Another thing that I have done is to
recommending my parents to use my educational fund on buying cheap properties with minor
problems. Our weekend is usually occupied by working on the house we have recently bought. In
long term, it is a great investment. It is a little risky, but the end we will get great return.
One reason I choose to attend New York University is definitely because of you are located in
New York City, a land of untold opportunities. I have always loved New York. I have been in the
U.S. for more than three years. And every year my family and I drove to New York City. There
seems to be a magnet that is pulling me toward the city. The best reason for why I am so fond of
New York is that when I was in New York, I truly felt like I am in America- the melting potpeople
surround me seem from all over the worldthat really makes me excited. I am currently in a
school where I am the only Chinese student and most of the classmates have been known each
other since elementary or even kindergarten. Sometimes I feel like a little bit isolated. But I adjust
fairly well. I want to meet to more people, so in addition to the day classes in high school I attend
night class in community class. I was amazed where my classmates come from Columbia, Sedan,
Vietnam, Korea. I study with them while exchanging our views about different cultures. It is just
exhilarating for me.
New York City will definitely offer unique opportunities that nowhere else can offer. I am
opportunity seeker. I endeavor to take all valuable opportunities. I love challenges. I might not be
extremely bright, but I do possess the determination and motivation and bravado and passion to
succeed. During my high school career, I have been able to take some business classes during my
freshman and sophomore years. I self-studied business law and entrepreneurship on my spare
time since my school does not offer good classes.
Sometimes, compromise is necessary. However, on the matter of choosing school and major
instead of compromising, I decide to pursue what I truly like to do. I know it is risky to apply NYU
as my Early Decision. But I do trust believe if I get accepted it will be the best decision and
investment I have never made. I believe NYU will provide best curriculum and opportunities. I
want to study close with leaders in their own distinct fields. I truly hope I can come to New York
City seeking my aspiration and gaining experience and growing as a leader. A Leader is the who is
willing to take actions and Follow your Passions.
