Sourav Ganguly was born into a sport-loving family but chose cricket over football against his parents' wishes, supported by his brother. He joined a cricket coaching camp and replaced his brother on the Bengal cricket team, making his international debut in 1992. Rumors of attitude problems hurt him but he was recalled in 1996 and scored a century, securing his place in the Indian test and ODI teams. He helped India start regularly winning matches along with teammates like Sachin and Dravid. He provided opportunities and guidance for young players and cultivated teamwork and merit over regional bias.
